The yarrow has begun to bloom in the Garden of Wonders. The pink bloomed first, then the white, and the yellow should be soon. The feathery leaves have drifted into our tiny “lawn” to join the clover and dwarf daisies in an imitation of a Medieval “flow’ry meade,” though more like our grandmothers’ lawns, likewise full of clover and daisies as, to our way of thinking, a proper lawn ought to be. No “weed and feed” for us, thank you.
Yarrow is an ancient herb, valued for literally thousands of years as a healing herb, with an ability to help mend open wounds. Its reputation as a healing herb may have given rise to its use in protection magic. It also has a long history of use as a divination tool. Indeed, the I Ching from China traditionally used dried yarrow stems as the sticks that are tossed and read.
